The Lovely Bones

Post  Molly Prewett on April 14th 2010, 2:10 pm

So I saw the movie and loved it, and over the past week I've been reading the book and I loved it more!
It was fantastic! I loved her writing style, how it slipped so seamlessly between time and place but was still so understandable. It really made me appreciate how difficult it must've been for Peter Jackson to capture that on screen!

I have a sudden fondness for icicles now...

I think the sister was my favourite character though - she was the one who kind of kept it together IYKWIM.

yeah Ruth was great in the books, she should totally have been more in the movie though. But I did love the scene when Susie is killed and she runs down the street and touches her - that was really well done

Just saw the movie and it worked really well! I was surprised how close to the book he managed to keep it!

IKR? I was really impressed with the way they managed to pull it all together because it was such a difficult style and subject matter to work with, and it could've been a total disaster! I've known people who read the book, then saw the movie and thought it was shit, but I wasn't even the slightest bit disappointed in the movie!
(even though after reading the book I have to concede that the book is better, but that's true 99.99% of the time anyway!)

I havn't seen the movie, but I have read the book and what struck me most was the originality of the story line, like where the hell do you come up with something like that?

And I love its childlike innocents at the beginning. Like someimes she says things that are really selfish, but like are what a child would say.

Watching this movie again.
Really makes me want to reread the book, because I always remember how brilliant the whole story is whenever I see the film.

I've been meaning to re-read this but at the same time I can't really bring myself to because it was so magical the first time I did....
