Re: The Dock By The Lake

Post  Lily Evans on October 14th 2011, 3:35 pm

Lily starts to laugh. "You're in for a let-down, Dem," she informs the other girl. "I'll show you, sure, but I'll actually be really satisfied if I wind up with a handful of shots that turn out enough for me to tell the difference between the castle and the Quidditch Pitch when I stick them in a photo album," she confesses. Lily, for all her love of neatness and order, and for things to look just right, does not possess a single artistic bone in her entire body. She already knows that her scrapbook is going to be no great masterpiece, but she's alright with that. The memories will be the same.

"I'm sure that the album will be really good no matter what!" Dem says with a smile on her face, trying to convince Lily that her scrapbook will be wonderful. "If you just have a positive attitude and believe it'll be good, then it will be good!" She enthusiastically says, meaning it because a positive attitude makes everything you do 100x better.

"And if not, there's probably an art movement named after whatever I come up with anyway, right? Like abstract, or surrealism or something," Lily says, chuckling. "Silver lining in everything, I guess. And you're right, it's going to be great anyway - all I want is a way to capture some of the memories here, so if I have that by the end, brilliant." She falls into silence a moment, then grins across at Dem. "So how was your summer, anyway, even though it seems forever ago now?"

"Yes, that's the spirit." She enthusiastically says with a small smile. "Oh, it's was good. I didn't really get up to anything major, but they were still good. I really spent a lot of time looking in fashion magazines and designing a lot of clothes and all of those sorts of things." She confesses to the other girl, still having the same love for fashion as she did before the holidays. It's not something that you can lose quickly, after all. It's a daily thing for everyone, dressing that is. Some people are just more passionate about it all more than other people. "What about you though?" Dem asks, coming out of her quick 'trance' you could say.

"That sounds great," Lily says, smiling and shrugging off Dem's responding question. "Oh, my break was fine. Boring, though, but I got a lot of good reading in. I remember you were quite interested in fashion, and designing. Do you think it's something you'll go on with when you're done here? Magical fashion could really use the help," she smirks, keeping the focus on her friend because Lily doesn't really like thinking about her own summer and how lonely it had been without knocking about with Sev the whole time.

"Well, to be honest I'm not really sure yet," She starts, unaware of Lily's disinterest in talking about her holidays, "It would be quite wonderful and worthwhile, you know? Some of the fashion that you see wizards, or witches, wearing is just awful! And I don't mean that in a mean way, it just is. When I see these people I just really want to get to know them...and give them a makeover, but that's beside the point anyway. Some wizard fashion is quite good, but I think that I could totally remodel it all, still keeping the basics, but you know, dressing it up a bit." She rambles on and on, "I could also help people dress like muggles for their outings, some people are really hopeless when it comes to that." She adds as an afterthought.

"It really is ghastly," Lily agrees with a quiet snort. "I think you'd definitely do well with a bit of an overhaul, but I suppose you'd have to keep the basics anyway - you'd be hard pressed getting them to give up robes. You'd be in constant demand if you were going to be a magical fashion consultant specialising in Muggle-appropriate wares." She pauses a moment, considering. "Hmm, I wonder if you could even get them to update the symbolic colours a bit. You know how magical folk are meant to wear green and purple to identify themselves in the Muggle world? Really, surely a pendant would be just as effective and far less disastrous," Lily says with a shrug.

Dem thinks to herself for a moment, "Hmm, that is quite a good idea. I mean, how can people be individuals if they have to wear the same colours as all of the other magical folk? Nobody can be themselves, and what good will that do? Besides, those colours aren't the two most matching colours out there. So, I think that a pendant or something would definitely be quite a lot better." Dem agrees with a small nod.

Re: The Dock By The Lake

"Surely it couldn't be that difficult to pass them out to seventh years as they leave school, or for the Ministry to organise them for people who lose them, or migrate to Britain or something. Although I don't know why anybody would want to migrate here when they could go somewhere with nicer weather and prettier scenery," Lily comments, a slight hint of wickedness to her smirk. "Somewhere like the Greek Islands, for example. With my skin tone, I'd fry in a heartbeat, but it'd be worth it to go surrounded by coastlines forever, too-blue water, and shirtless Greek men smothered in oil." She takes in the scenery. The water of the lake is dark and unfathomable, and the only figures she can spot dotting the shoreline in the distance are pale and robed. Shaking her head, Lily heaves a playful sigh. "Doesn't quite compare, does it?"

"Exactly! Once it was all up and running, I think that it would make things so much better than all these silly dressing rules." Dem nods, deciding that it is best to just leave it at that, she could rant for quite a long time about these sorts of things, so she doesn't think that Lily really wants to listen to all of that, so she joins her in thinking of all of the lovely places with lovely weather and much lovelier things than here. "Wow, all of those things just seem s lovely and amazing."

"Don't they?" Lily chuckles. "Wouldn't it be neat if there were more magical schools in Europe -there'd have to be more than Durmstrang and Beaxbatons, right?- and they did exchange programs? I wouldn't say no to spending a year in Greece. Or even Italy, I'd not be all that picky. It'd solve a whole stack of problems, actually," she decides. After all, she'd not have to deal with Sev and his wounded puppy how-could-you-leave-me looks, or Potter and his... well, whatever Potter is up to this year. And Voldemort would be so very far away for just a little while, and wouldn't that be nice?

"An exchange program? That would be really cool and fun!" Dem says with a smile on her face, "Think of all the foreign thing that you could experience! Food, people, customs, scenery, lessons, magic, oh and of course fashion." She adds on the end, starting to think of all the fun that an exchange could be. It would all be so worthwhile and fun. She could also learn quite a lot about foreign fashion, which would be really interesting. She could try and work some of that stuff into some sort of design. It would be modern, but foreign. Who wouldn't like that?

"Can't forget the fashion," Lily smiles, secretly thinking that Italy would suit Dem right down to the ground. Lily thinks she'll stick with Greece for the time being. Maybe she'll get a towel boy. Nevermind that she could never afford one, she thinks she'd do well to have a towel boy on staff. lol random SBP references >.> Sorry, back to the action. "It'd be strange trying to learn in a different language, though. Sure, the Latin used for most spells would stay the same, but there are some non-Latin spells that would be odd."

"When would I ever forget the fashion?" Dem smiles and asks. "Yeah, that would be pretty strange, I imagine difficult as well. Knowing one language your whole life, then having to learn it all again in a small space of time. It would all definitely be worth it though." Dem nods, thinking that she would learn a language for a fun exchange trip any day.

"Definitely worth it," Lily agrees. Maybe her towel boy could tutor her in Greek. Surely her parents would pay for a tutor for her if she wanted to learn, right? She watches the water again for a while, her feet swinging lazily back and forth as she enjoys the relaxation and the company, she notices after a while that there is one long tentacle waving in the air from the centre of the lake. Lily laughs. "I think the Squid can hear us and he's trying to remind us why we love Hogwarts and soggy old Britain." She waves back at the tentacle, sure that somewhere beneath the surface, the Giant Squid is watching them.

Dem looks over to the water, noticing the Giant Squid. "Hmm, if I did go on a fabulous adventure, I would probably miss him. How many other magical schools have a giant squid in their lake?" She smiles as she continues to look at old squidy. When she thinks about it, Hogwarts is actually a really cool place and she would miss it quite a bit if she went away. There's just something about it that is magical.

"Might get an extra roll of film, just for the squid. I did once say I'd prefer him to Potter after all, so I feel like there's a bit of a bond there," Lily jokes, still waving at the creature in question. "You're right, though. There can't be anywhere else in the world quite like Hogwarts. It's home," she says simply. "And there's no way any other school could have any creature as great as the Giant Squid. If they say they do, they're lying," she decides.

Re: The Dock By The Lake

Dem laughs a little at her remark about a separate film roll for the Giant Squid, then starts thinking again about how magical Hogwarts truly is. "You're right,'" Dem says, letting out a little sigh, "Hogwarts really is home. I mean, it's not just a few things that make it great, it's everything all together. As much as some people get to me as well, it's basically like one big family."

[s'ok love. *just as bad*]

Lily pauses to think that through, finally dropping her arm back to her lap. A few moments later, the waving tentacle slips back below the surface, then splashes out at the two girls on the dock despite being far too far away to splash them. Then, the tentacle disappears completely and calm settles over the lake. "Have you ever noticed that that is actually true for most of the Purebloods, it seems? They're all cousins, and second cousins, and twelfth-cousins-twice-removed or something ridiculous," Lily smirks. "Just one big dysfunctional family. I've got to say, I'm not sorry to not be on that Christmas card list."

"I know, it's just ridiculous! Just to keep the pure blood traditions up, I mean, why does it matter if one or both of your parents are magical? It doesn't make you any less of a wizard or witch," Dem rants, "Some people really need to change their opinions. I mean, if we didn't start marrying muggles, there would be none of us left. Also, who cares if someone was raised by muggles? They are just as good, and sometimes better than those purebloods who think that they are the best." Dem ends, thinking that some peoples views are really just rude and un-necessary.

Lily shrugs. "I guess when you build up the whole world around an ideal, it's not so easy to convince people to change. Especially when life works better for them to keep the system the same, and be on top." She swings her legs easily back and forth and keeps her voice light, as if she's discussing the weather rather than the systematic oppression of those like her. She even manages a grin. "Doesn't matter, they all know I can match 'em anyway."

"Yeah, I guess so. They were peoples views in the old days, so I guess it'll be hard for some people to change those opinions." Dem agreed with a small nod, and can't help but giggle a little at Lily's remark, knowing that she wouldn't want to take Lily on herself. "Yes, that is true. You are pretty badass when it comes to magic, I don't think I would want to battle you, because I know that I don't think that I could match all of that." She smiles a little, waiting to see what Lily will say to that.

"Well, don't let me catch you in the halls after curfew and you won't have to find out," Lily jokes, but she smiles because she's flattered by Dem's compliments. "It's the hair, see, it' blinds my opponents." And she tucks a strand of said hair behind her ear as if to protect Dem from it. God this seems like a shitty and short post for such a long wait, sorry. How fail. "Anyway, I'm not that great - I guess it's just practice and study a lot of the time," she adds, because that's how she gets results, even in subjects like Charms and Potions where she already has natural talent to rely on.

"Okay, I'll be sure that I'm on my best behaviour." Dem smiles, glad that she has someone to have a nice little joke with. "Yes, studying is quite essential, but I think that fiery red-head attitude tops it all off. And I mean that in the nicest way possible." She quickly adds, just in case Lily gets a bit offended or something. Sucky post is sucky. Sorry!

Lily chuckles again, not offended by Dem's words but happy to carry on the joke for a moment longer. "Well, sure, that's what's going to get me through NEWTs these next couple of years, don't you know?" she smirks. "The books are just for show. Don't tell the people in my class, the shock of it all might give them a stroke." It's fine, love. I've been the queen of sucky posts lately.
