The Modern Tales of Faerie - Tithe, Valiant, and Ironside

FUCK YES HOLLY BLACK MAN.

I love her, and her dark faeries...they've made my life amazing for years. The books are pretty dark for teen novels, but i love them with a passion. Another series like them is The Faerie Wars by i forget his name...they bring the darkness of the Courts out, i think, amazingly.

I read the first one. I think I liked the idea, but not the protagonist, or something like that. I know I read Tithe.

I can't remember what I didn't like, to be honest. There is just a memory of not being one hundred percent in love with the book. I read the summary on wikipedia, and I STILL can't place what is nagging me. I will reread it eventually, since you like it, and I trust your taste.

Re: The Modern Tales of Faerie - Tithe, Valiant, and Ironside

Post  Gabriel Djinn Whiteraven on September 27th 2010, 12:26 am

The scent of blood rides high
on the wind,
with its traces of cold, black iron,
rotted earth, dying flesh,
and i stagger backward
as the smell, pungent
and terrible
fills my nostrils.
It stinks and brings
tears to my eyes
[space]I hat this rank stench.
I stand on a hill, called Breguoin,
beneath a a young rowan tree,
its slender
grey trunk, rising
above me,
sheltering and hiding me,
protecting me.
Also a witness
to awful events.
The rowan tree's
graceful leaves and soft
white flowers
brush my arm like
a whisper. But
they do not shield me from
the stink of blood,
of death.
Men scurry beneath me and this tree,
running hither and fro,
like ants busy at work,
but their work is the work
of nightmares.
Men in battle leathers and armor,
running hither and fro,
swords and shields raise,
and they run at each other,
hacking and slicing
thrusting this way and that.
I watch the warring unfold,
my stomach clenched and
biting, yet i cannot look
away.
Nor can my friend,
my guardian,
the rowan tree.

Same here. I never finished it for some reason. My mom knows the author though, I believe, so that might have been why I started them.

Post  James Potter - Inactive on October 13th 2010, 4:37 am

I've read them. They were.... I liked the idea. The storyline wasn't terrible. I do remember being annoyed with the way things just kind of happened. Like I'd be halfway through a page before having to backtrack and find where the author put a major plot advancement into like two lackluster sentences. But I kinda liked the stories. I don't know if they came before Wicked Lovely or not, but I know I read Wicked Lovely first and then the faerie courts weren't as novel to me going through these books.
